Program Description
Training Levels:
A. For students having mastered about 2000 words (Intermediate level one)
B. For students having mastered about 3000 words (Intermediate level two)
Teaching Objectives:
A. For students of category A, after they conclude one school-year¡¯s study and acquire the required credit points, they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 4500 words or so and finish learning the grammar and lexical usage of the intermediate phase.
B. For students of category B, after they conclude one school-year¡¯s study and acquire the required credit points, they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 6000 words or so and finish learning the grammar and lexical usage of the intermediate phase and part of the grammar and vocabulary of the advanced phase.
Training Hours: The first term will last for 20 weeks; the second 20 weeks, altogether for 40 weeks (one school-year). There are 12-20 teaching hours per week, altogether 480-800 teaching hours.
Teaching Objectives:
A. For students of category A, after they conclude one school-year¡¯s study and acquire the required credit points, they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 1900-2100 words and complete the grammar study at the elementary phase.
B. For students of category B, after they conclude one school-year¡¯s study and acquire the required credit points, they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 2200-2400 words and finish learning the grammar of the elementary phase and basic lexical usage.
C. For students of category C, after they conclude one school-year¡¯s study and acquire the required credit points, they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 2800-3000 words and finish learning the grammar of the elementary phase and part of the grammar and vocabulary of the intermediate phase.
The applicant should graduate from a senior high school,and be in the age bracket of 18-50
1. Photocopy of valid passport With photo, passport number &expiration date and name included.
2. Passport-sized photo A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.
3. Certificate/Diploma of highest education The certificate should be in English or Chinese, if not,it should be translated into English or Chinese and be notarized
4. Valid identity document of the applicant's emergency contact person For example, photocopy of ID card, photocopy of passport, etc.

About Beijing Language and Culture University
Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is the only international university in China with its main task set at teaching the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. Meanwhile it also undertakes the tasks of offering degree education to both Chinese and international students in the fields of foreign languages, liberal arts,computer science, finance and accounting, of training teachers specialized in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and of providing intensive training of foreign languages to teachers preparing to go abroad.
BLCU was established in 1962. In the past 50 years since its establishment BLCU has educated more than 130,000 international students of more than 170 countries or regions who know Chinese language and culture very well. And about ten thousand international students of different countries, colors, or languages come to join the 6,000 Chinese students on campus every year. The international students on BLCU campus every year represent a proportion of one twelfth of the total of China and one sixth of Beijing.
It comprises 13 education departments. Of all the disciplines BLCU offers, one is a national key discipline and nine are Beijing municipal key disciplines. The Center for Studies of Chinese as a Second Language (CSCSL) in BLCU is one of the key research bases of humanities and social sciences that are presided directly by the Ministry of Education. Other research centers include International Cultures Research Center, the Center for Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), Language Research Institution, Institute for Comparative Literature Research, and Institute for Applied Linguistics Research,etc. which are academically highly influential both internationally and domestically. BLCU sponsors and directs three national Chinese core periodicals which are well known in the academic circle, namely YUYAN JIAOXUE YU YANJIU, SHIJIE HANYU JIAOXUE, and ZHONGGUO WENHUA YANJIU.
BLCU is the biggest, the most experienced and the best resourced Chinese university in the education of Chinese language and in the international promotion of Chinese culture. Now BLCU has a unique, well-structured, and advantageous disciplines system, covering short-term Chinese language study, intensive Chinese training, on-line education, undergraduate education and graduate education, etc. And its education quality enjoys high reputation domestically and internationally.
As an internationally oriented university, BLCU is in cooperative or friendly relationship with more than 280 universities or educational organizations from more than 50 countries. And as many as 16 Confucius Institutes all over the world are directed by BLCU.

3 ways from the Capital airport to BLCU 1,Take a taxi to the South Gate of BLCU 2,take an airport bus to the XueYuan Road and take a taxi to the South Gate of BLCU 3,take the airport express train to San Yuan Qiao, and transfer subway line No.10 and get off at Zhi Chun Lu, and change subway line No.13 and get off at Wu Dao Kou, and walk 10 minutes to the South Gate of BLCU. Accommodations at Beijing Language and culture University
Department of International Cooperation and Exchange will help exchange students to reserve dorms of Building 17 or Conference Center inside the campus in advance.
1. International Students House (Building 17) Double room: 65-95 CNY per day Telephone and Internet access bills are not included. TV, Telephone, Internet access, air conditioning, refrigerator, closet, bathroom are available.
2. Conference Center Standard Single room: 135-198 CNY per day, Luxury Single room: 215-348 CNY per day, Luxury double room: 398 CNY per day, Breakfast included Telephone and Internet access bills are not included. TV, Telephone, Internet access, air conditioning, refrigerator, closet, bathroom are available.
If exchange students need accommodation in Building 17 or Conference center, please do send us the accommodation reservation form together with their application before the application deadline.
Exchange students can also contact with out accommodation center to book other buildings inside the campus.
3. Accommodation Center Single room: 90-160 CNY per day, Double room: 50-80 CNY per day Telephone and Internet access bills are not included. TV, Telephone, Internet access, air conditioning, refrigerator, closet, bathroom are available in a single or a double room.

Application Materials

Non-degree Program 1. Photocopy of valid passport With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included 2. Passport photo A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant 3. Certificate/diploma of highest education Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. 4. Valid identity document of the applicant's emergency contact person For example, photocopy of ID card, photocopy of passport, etc.
Bachelor's Degree Programs
1. Certificate of HSK For applicants of Chinese Language major and Chinese Language and Culture major:Level 3 or above. For those applying to take classes with Chinese students: HSK Level 6 or above 2. Photocopy of valid passport With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included 3. Entry requirement
Non-degree Program
The applicant should be a senior high school graduate in the age bracket of 18-50.
Bachelor's Degree Programs Applicant should be a senior high school graduate or with equivalent schooling in the age bracket of 18-50,with an HSK certificate (level 6 or above). (Classes will be taken together with Chinese students.)
Master's Degree Programs Applicant should be under 40 years old and have acquired a Bachelor's degree or evidence of its equivalent. Provide English proficiency certificate if applicable, if not, teachers will test your English proficiency after admission.
Doctoral Degree Programs Under 45 years old Have a Master's degree or equivalent Two recommendation letters from his/her advisors (full or associate professors) An HSK Level 9 certificate (C level or above for advanced learner)

Introduction on BLCU
Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is the only international university in China with its main task set at teaching the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. Meanwhile it also undertakes the tasks of offering degree education to both Chinese and International students in the fields of foreign languages, liberal arts, computer science, finance and accounting and of training teachers specialized in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
Our beautiful garden-like campus is located in the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Zone in the capital of China, covering an area of 38 hectares and boasting a quiet and comfortable learning environment.
During the 50 years since its founding, BLCU has educated over 130,000 international students from 170 countries and regions around the world who are now proficient in Chinese and familiar with Chinese culture. In recent years, more than 10,000 international students come and study here each year.
BLCU enjoys a conspicuous academic advantage in the fields of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and teaching Chinese culture. Its programs cover both short-term and long-term language certificate courses and degree courses (B.A., M.A. and Ph.D), each with its own distinctive characteristics. China-U.S. High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE)
Study-in-China Scholarship
In order to encourage and fund more American students to study in China, the Chinese government sets up the CPE Study-in-China Scholarship (Scholarship for short). What follows is a brief introduction to the Scholarship.
1. Categories of the Scholarship
The Scholarship will be granted in the forms of Degree Program Scholarship and Credit-transfer Program Scholarship.
A. Degree Program Scholarship
The Degree Program Scholarship will be provided to those full-time students newly enrolled in postgraduate degree programs by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU for short). Those who have received support from other scholarship programs will not be eligible.
B. Credit-Transfer Program Scholarship
Credit-Transfer Program Scholarship will be provided to those students who will study in China for no less than 3 months and whose course credits received in China will be recognized by their American universities.
2. The Scholarship content
A. Degree Program Scholarship, full scholarship covering:
1. Registration fee, tuition fee, laboratory experiment fee, internship fee, fee for basic learning materials, and on-campus accommodation
2. Living allowance
3. One-off settlement subsidy after registration
4. Outpatient medical service together with Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in China
B. Credit-Transfer Program Scholarship, only tuition fees will be covered.
3. The program duration
A. Degree Program Scholarship: Valid from the year 2012 to the year 2013.
B. Credit-Transfer Program Scholarship: Valid from this year to the year 2013.
4. Application information
A. Degree Program Scholarship
Submit all the application documents, c.f. attachment, to the Admission Office for Foreign Students of BLCU before April 30, 2012.
B. Credit-Transfer Program Scholarship
Submit the relevant exchange agreement between the American university and BLCU to the Admission Office for Foreign Students of BLCU before April 30, 2012.
