About Tianjin University

Tianjin University is the first university in China founded in 1895 and also one of the key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China. With over one hundred years of history, the university has formed a distinct style, which centers on engineering, combined with science and other disciplines of management, economy, literature, philosophy, art, education, pharmaceutics, Chinese language Teaching and so on, thus developing an integrative layout. A complex educational system consisting of bachelor, master and doctoral programs has been established in the university, which is well-known for its academic spirit of “Rigorous Scholarship, rigid discipline” both at home and abroad. With the goal of cultivating innovative talent, Tianjin University has 51 bachelor programs, 150 Master programs, 92 Doctoral programs and 20 Post-doctoral Research Programs, MBA, EMBA, MPA and an Engineering Master Program. There are 1,369 professors and associate professors, among whom there are 14 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 505 PhD’s supervisors and 864 Master‘s supervisors. Now there are more than 27,570 students, among whom over 10,390 are postgraduates.

Since 1949, our university has cultivated a large number of leading and senior cadres, hundreds of heads of large state-owned enterprises and chief engineers. Partly estimated, in our school alumni there are 64 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and more than 50 presidents of universities of China. A great amount contribute to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in venue construction: Mr.Cui Kai (the chief director for the Olympic project from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of China), Mr.Li Xinggang (chief designer of the National Stadium - "Bird's Nest"), Mr.Zhao Xiaojun (chief designer of the National Swimming Center (the "Water Cube"), as well as 10 more leading figures which also graduated from our university.

Tianjin University began to enroll international students in 1954, and is one of the earliest universities to accept international students in China. It has accepted more than 12,000 international students of different levels from over 100 different countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania. Tianjin University has established long cooperative relationship with 121 colleges and institutions in Korea, Japan, USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Thailand, Australia, Russia and 30 other countries. International students can be accepted to study in any of the programs in the university,including bachelor, master, doctor programs and short-term or long-term Chinese language courses. A great number chosen students who graduated from our university have gained high praise for their knowledge and ability in their occupations.

Tianjin University School of International Education is also one of the earliest universities with “Base of Chinese Language Education” Programs designated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. Currently the International Education in Tianjin University has formed a multi-species and multi-levels pattern.
